Its exciting to see the discussion about this and comments about Caribbean perceptions of fatness as healthy http://bioethicscaribe.org/2/post/2013/03/call-for-articles-bsec-newsletter.html#comments . I believe that education and knowledge are always beneficial to individuals and societies, but many now recognize that these alone are not enough to change behaviors. Classic example is tobacco – there are lots less smokers because of education over decades, but millions still smoke and still start. Maybe we need policies and simple measures that facilitate walking and exercise, along with educational efforts.
